About the Survey

On June 23, a survey was distributed to members of the University community—students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents, and other stakeholders—offering the opportunity to share hopes, expectations, and the qualities sought in a new leader. The survey was open until July 18 and included five multiple-choice questions, each focused on a key dimension relevant to the presidential search:

  1. Affiliation: Respondents’ current relationship to the University
  2. Priorities: Issues the Columbia community wants the next president to address
  3. Leadership: Key traits and competencies considered essential for the role
  4. Background: Professional experiences deemed most valuable
  5. What Sets Columbia Apart: Distinctive attributes that define Columbia’s identity and strengths


The survey received a total of 9,061 responses.
